We stopped in Olomouc for a night because we needed a break from being in the car. We had no expectations but it ended up being really neat – like a fairy-tale town!

Walking around in the historic area in the morning, the streets were empty. Just us, a few workers, and a few pigeons. I waved at the pigeons but they ignored me. Rude.

My favorite was the astronomical clock. It was fancy but very “socialist” (whatever that means). It had worker mosaics from the 1950s. It looked like the clock was saying, “Time to get to work!”

There was a big park across the street from where we stayed. It was so peaceful. And the fall leaves were so pretty.

Olomouc turned out to be great. Sometimes the best places are the ones you don’t plan. Like surprise candy in your pocket.
