Thal, Austria

Thal, Austria

So, there’s like one guy from Austria that everybody knows. He was in big movies where he looked like a robot and then he was the boss of California, which seems really random. He was born in Thal, Austria and lived there as a kid and now has spent a bunch of money helping his town. So the town is all about him.

There’s a Wanderweg (a trail) that you can walk to see all of the places of his childhood, like his house, his school and his church. And you can also see all of things that are named after him. It’s not a big town so the walk doesn’t take very long.

The coolest thing in the whole town is the church called the Parish Church of St. James the Elder. I’ve seen more churches than any pig I know and this one just made me so excited because it is super colorful. There’s the old part where the famous guy was baptized and stuff and then there’s the newer part that was designed by an artist named Ernst Fuchs. You say it like “Foooooks”, not like a bad word (and also it means fox in German). Fuchs was an artist in the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism and the church is definitely fantastic. With all of the seashells and sparkles, I kinda think that it’s a church for mermaids. Except there isn’t a Sea (or a See) nearby.

A lot of churches are boring for little pigs, but this one? I’ll be back!
